Tuesday Twiser- Busy Day- first Lacto Fermented day

This will be my FIRST Tuesday Twister... but whew-- today was a BUSY day in the kitchen .... not nearly every day is this busy!!

Started out trying to pick some raspberries-- not many were ready yet + 3 boys LOVE to eat as we pick (they are just growing wild on our land). Thursday is our BIG yearly Blueberry picking date-- can't wait.

Then it was high time I re-make some strawberry jam that NEVER sat up-- so I re-made it and re-canned it.. DONE-- looks MUCH better now.

My first batch of REAL kefir with grains-- and a second batch of yogurt-- can't wait--- It is really warm in our house--so I'm sure they will be done by morning. I was hoping to do it in 1/2 gallon batches--- but it wasn't working-- or I was to impatient-- anyway the directions I have use quart jars-- so I'll continue to practice this way.

Then I realized it was almost 2pm and no one had had lunch-- so I made some chocolate ice cream!! A friend told me to try to freeze some goat milk in ice cube trays and then mix with milk and whatever else-- they were GOOD!! (can you tell?)

VERY VERY GOOD!! :)

Yummmm-o

Next on to my FIRST attempt at lacto fermented foods!!! Whewwwwww----

So first thing first-- we headed off to the computer to watch Wardeh's video on the GNOWFLINS course.... ;)

Then off to shred some carrots......

And 3 heads of cabbage.....

By the time I had all this done-- hubby was up and headed out to mow the grass-- first he went to the local produce stand (within walking distance of our home) and got some GEORGOUS lettuce for .50 a head.... below is 1 head!!!!!! WOW!! We had Taco Salad

How did I get this all done? Well -- my little kitchen helper in trainning luckly likes to watch-- for a time-- (then being rotated to her pack-n-play-- ) and then outside to play while mommy feeds nathan outside--- to stretch EVERYONES legs.

My 2 year old kitchen helper-- kept the dirty dishes in the sink-- and played with water...

The boys did the burger, kidney beans, and set the table. (oh also, cut up the cucumber and shredded the cheese)

Not to be outdone-- the 2 year old then helped tear the lettuce, and add all the chopped up produce.

Ahhhh-- and now it is 9:41 and this is what I am walking into!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ughhhh but it was a VERY good and VERY produtive day!

  1. What an adorable family!

A few weeks ago I had also bought the biggest head of lettuce I've ever seen for 1.00. We also had taco salads with it LOL.

  2. An AMAZING day for you! I love how helpful your children are. You're blessed! After all their work, I hope they enjoy the carrots and sauerkraut. :)
