Update -- kitchen, homestead, homeschool
Instead of doing quite a few entries-- I'm going to try to combine them into one... :)
First-- my Stretchy Beans week-- with Black Beans- (3 gallons remember?) Well-- the menu was easy to plan-- and I feel I really did not use much in my kitchen (aka my grocery list this week is very small-) which is an interesting outcome-- but the negative-- is-- I was planning on doing Lentils this week-- but my brain capacity to sit down and figure 4-5 meals with Lentils just isn't "there" right now-- so this week we are going with a "regular" menu with Lenil soup on it for 2 days (our Lentil soup goes ON and ON and ON). So it was a sucess--- if I had my menus more together. I am planning on starting a new recipe binder soon-- and I will be saving the Black Bean recipes I have-- so that in a few weeks we can re-do this menu plan. And once I have a menu plan for each type of bean--I do think it will be VERY easy to keep up with. (and then Spring will be here and who will want a lot of heavy bean dishes, right?) LOL
On another kitchen note- Living Sacrifice (blog) has had 3 parts of a How To Feed Your Family for Less than $75 week. I have always enjoyed her blog-- she is very TO THE POINT-- and I LIKE that....
You can find part 1 Here: Part 1: Motives -- here is Part 2: Perspective , here is Part 2: Change your Perspective -- Part 2: The Remainder of Perspective- - Part 2: The Persepctive of Kings -- Part 3: Take Action.
I can feel spring coming up fast--- I knew March would be the beginning of a BUSY spring-- but I can feel February winding up already. It has been so interesting to hear so many people say "Oh where is Spring, I'm done with Winter" and I just sit back and think-- NO WAY-- I am enjoying this "down" time-- when spring comes life is going to be BUSY BUSY BUSY. And Spring for us will begin the first 10 days of March (when our goats begin to kid-- and we begin bottle feeding and milking, etc) Still in the mean time we began giving them their "shots" and need to get our birthing supplies ready to go. Not to mention make sure the BUCK is moved to his own new home before March 1st.
In the meantime we may have new "kits" (baby rabbits any day after the 16th (next Wednesday) as our buck has gotten into the girls pen quite a bit. So that could prove interesting.
February will wind up fast if all goes according to plan. This weekend the guys are going to a Sportsman show (hunting, fishing etc), then Sunday we are having our Christmas get together with Jason's family. We are "HOPING" to squeeze in a trip to Washington DC yet this month with our oldest 2 boys and 2 nephews....but we really need to do that before goat kidding begins.
On the educational front-- things are going well-- going at a steady pace. We have decided to switch math programs very soon. It was to be in September-- but the more I think about it-- I'd like to switch sooner. We are hopefully switching to "Math U See" I remember thinking I would NEVER use that-- but alas-- I've come over to the side-- of "hey if it is working so well for so many....."
We have a few other things ready to go come next school year. In the meantime the boys only have 1 more lesson in their Social Stuides workbook-- so I got out WEAVER Volume 3!! Yes-- I know anyone who has read my blog for any lenght of time knows-- I go ROUND and ROUND with this--- I really do feel it is what we NEED to use-- and what God wants us to use-- but sometimes I just fail-- so terribly in the planning and execution...... We'll see what happens....... between now and fall.
With baby coming Late April/ Early May (depending on who you ask)-- I am REALLY planning on having all the boys evaluations done and testing done by March 31st... we won't be done with our SCHOOL year-- but all the legal obligations will be met-- incase life gets a LITTLE hectic come June!
On the Homeschool topic-- did you PA homeschoolers see that Doug Phillips (Vision Forum) AND the Maxwells will be at CHAP this year... as well as Ken Ham.... will we be there??? It depends on babys arrival-- I would LOVE to just go and listen to these speakers though.
