Homestead update
How about a Homestead Update??
First of all, Patches has been a GREAT addition to our homestead. I wasn't sure we would ever have another dog again-- (we've had 3 black labs in my lifetime) and well-- all the research is right-- Border Collies make GREAT FARM DOGS!!! She does great!!!!
We did have to take her to the VET for some worm issues, but all seems to be very well there now.... and it worked out to get her rabies vaccination as well.
Little miss Rachel LOVES to be outside watching all the action as well!
This is our buck pen. We have 2 of our spring babies back for a short time... they are going to be in our friends freezer by the end of September...when we get the time to do the butchering.
We do have 1 more new addition!! A new cat. We had a cat here that came with the house.. but he disappeared and we are pretty sure he is gone gone.... because the previous owners of this house tried to take him to their new home (2 miles away) and he CONTINUED to come back here... so we welcomed him (as an outside mouser cat)....
Rebekah LOVES -- and I mean LOVES SASSY!! (our old cat was not a friendly people cat-- just a good mouser). Sassy is so patient with Rebekah too-- she puts her in her little cars and pushes her around......

SASSY is her name and well --- she is a VERY interesting cat.
She is soooooo friendly and patient with the children as you will see-- but with PATCHES!?! Oh no-- she has PUT HIM IN HER PLACE!!!!!! WOWWIE--- I'm not sure why but this cat does NOT like dogs (which I really did already know-- which is kinda why my friend wanted to unload her-- because she would attack / ride one of their 10 dogs---) well sure enough SASSY is not fond of Patches, but Patches just keeps her distance......
Rebekah LOVES -- and I mean LOVES SASSY!! (our old cat was not a friendly people cat-- just a good mouser). Sassy is so patient with Rebekah too-- she puts her in her little cars and pushes her around......My parents will LOVE this picture because they have a picture of me doing the SAME thing with a puppy I had when I was almost this EXACT age-- and I pushed him around in my baby buggy-- Rebekah doesn't have a buggy yet-- but when she does I'm sure Sassy will get a few rides!!
This is often what I find Rebekah doing outside-- just carring Sassy from place to place....
Just another shot of Patches-- looks like she is watching out for Sassy!! :0
A favorite picture-- laundry on the line-- Rebekah carring Sassy-- Patches herding Rebekah-- LOL-- life is good
And that is a short update on our homestead!!! :) :)

Now I could NOT get a good picture of this-- but I so wanted to--
Here is a good question for fellow goat owners---
We LOVE LOVE LOVE to bottle feed our baby goats (their mammas milk) because we like them to be SUPER SUPER TAME.
So we bottle fed all our girls (future milking goats) and let our boys stay on their mammas...except 1 whose mamma didn't have time for him and we bottle fed him and then decided to keep him intact vs. making him a weather. (like all the rest). So our friends brought our weathers back to us to hold until we can butcher-- and I was just watching them-- AMAZING the difference in them!!! THe one on the right was on his mamma ALL THE TIME--- and is also weathered. THe one on the left is not weathered and was bottle fed his mammas milk via bottle..... HUGE difference in size!!!!
HOWEVER-- there is also a HUGE difference in TEMPERMENT!! The one we bottle fed is sooooo calm and tame and comes when called-- and is just super sweet. ALLLLLLL the ones we left on their mammas are a bit "wild" and do NOT EVER come when called---- and our boys were out in the field playing with all of them-- there just really is a difference when bottle fed.....
But now that i see the size difference--- and build difference even (they were all born the same week) and all 3 of the weathers (on their mammas) are BIGGER..... (and WILDER).....
Not sure what to think about that-------
And that is a short update on our homestead!!! :) :)
