Kitchen Update

LOTS LOTS LOTS going on right now....

Right now (as I type) we are making some roasted chestnuts)

Here the boys are harvesting them in the rain-- unasked- we are doing a SUPER MINI unit study on some trees and nuts and things-- and today was Chestnuts.

Here our walnuts are drying well. Have to laugh at our old house we could've NEVER done this the squirrels would've devoured them. I don't know that I have seen a single squirrel here though!!

Okay-- Ladies-- this is my first batch of Kombucha-- this is day 6-7 Does this LOOK RIGHT!?!! I need to get a better jar with a larger mouth so the mushroom can OPEN up properly..

Here is th side view

Here is the 3rd making of stock from a wonderful batch of bones I got last week..... I thought I'd retire the bones then but.....

They started to break apart and I *THINK* this is the REALLY REALLY REALLY good stuff I want, right???

I mean I was breaking them up with little force.... amazing!

Then just had to share my THICKEST batch of goat yogrut EVER!! I have no idea why it is so thick but it is!! YEAAAAA

Apple sauce-- yummm

Had a lot to do so I did it up in batches in my BIG roaster--- this is 3/4 a bushel at a time!

Lest, you think I am all"GOOD" (those of you who KNOW ME, KNOW I am NOT) but this has been my treat this week-- OH MY-- I have finished EVERY POT EVERY MORNING since making this-- MUST STOP!! (my heart racing says so)

And I was oh so bad when I devoured this too-- RAW CHEDDAR CHEESE!!! YUMMMMMM (said like the Red Robbin commercial). LOL

  1. Wow, you really have been busy in your kitchen!!
The kombucha I would think would have a thicker patty growing on the top by now. If you have problems with your kombucha not fermenting properly, I would suspect the water first thing. I have information (if you are interested, let me know) available that I received with my kombucha mushroom from Laurel Farms.

About your broth - to my knowledge the nutrients from the bones end up in the broth by the time your done using up the bones. I have heard of people breaking them open and than simmer them for awhile longer yet.
