Hobby Farm Update 4/6

It's SPRING and the homestead is HOPPING with lots of new things...... So here is this weeks update:

The broilers are growing fast...... they are 3 weeks and are getting their feathers. We are hoping to build them an outside home today..... (pictures to follow next week)

Laundry on the line.... ahhh I love that....

The CLOTHING POLICE showed up this week.... not to be confused with FASHION POLICE...lol Mt. Laundry was getting OUT OF HAND with a few young children who can dress themselves and so decide to do so 3-4x a day!! The CLOTHING POLICE have limited clothing for each child to 4-5 OUTSIDE outfits and 2-3 NICE outfits..THATS IT.... everything else is clearly labeled in totes in the basement. (Because of course with only 3-4 outfits they will be stained/torn faster and now I can easily switch them out). I *THINK* I have it down to EVERYONE putting their clothes in ONE clothes basket at the top of the steps and 1 perons brings it down each day and laundry is DONE!!!!!

Even the littlest of our family have enjoyed being outside

The boys cleaned the chicken house... WHEWW what a job... they did a GREAT JOB!!!
(they got a special frozen yogurt treat afterwards)

We have been getting 0-3 eggs the last week (down from 15 a day) so we need to find out where the ROBBER is comming in....we found a few "holes" which we will patch and probably have to put out a few traps (baited with eggs...after all that is what they like)

Ugh I just deleted the photo of inside the chicken house... TRUST ME it was CLEAN.....

The dirty stuff will make great garden compost!!

I *LOVE* taking pictures of the goats-- here they are doing what they love best.... eating over growth and PLAYING...

Patching the dog spent a night outside-- she didn't like it but she was a GOOD guard dog....

We thought about putting the layers over here for a bit-- but they were not happy and kept flying out. SO instead while they were here we cleaned their house and then moved them right back to their happy home.

I also *LOVE* taking pictures of BESSY....she is very happy. Well she does have a bit of diarrhea but I think that might be from going to cheap hay... to good hay to PASTURE. She is not calm enough to bring in each evening as some people do-- I've heard some bring their cows in each evening to be sure they get enough hay-- but that really isn't an option...so I am hoping she adjusts quickly. She is happy eating and chewing her cud.

We did get 1 new homestead addition... a rooster. We were all a bit curious if he would last or end up in a pot-- but actually he is REALLY nice. He was given to us only because he was leading his other "girls" astray to other yards and things... but here he stays in the electric netting fence and all seems well. Joshua had picked him up a few times.... (better him than me) :0

With the gain of 1 we also sold one. We sold our first buck. That is the plan-- we have 4 more to sell. Any not sold by April 30th will be "weathered" and kept on the farm for meat.

The kids do love playing with the kid goats.
